Promote communication work and raise awareness about smart schools adapting to climate change in Ben Tre

“If you want green people, you must have green cities. If you want a green city, you must have many green buildings, including green schools." In the trend of green development, on April 8-4, 9, GREEN IN coordinated with the Union of Associations (LHH) and the Department of Education and Training of Ben Tre province to organize a workshop. “Communication to raise awareness about green school initiatives and solutions in Ben Tre” to raise awareness about sustainable energy for school teachers in Ben Tre province, and at the same time help teachers have a lot of information to guide students across the province in implementing green initiatives and solutions.

Attending were leaders of the Department of Education and Training of 9 districts and cities and nearly 200 teachers from primary schools in the province; Vice President of LHH Nguyen Huy Phuc; Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training Vo Van Be Hai; Founder and strategic advisor of GREEN IN Nguy Thi Khanh - co-chair of the workshop.

According to the Report “Some policies, programs and solutions for green schools in Ben Tre province", in recent times, the Department of Education and Training has coordinated with the Provincial Youth Union to build a "Green - Clean - Dynamic" school model. Preliminary results of phase 1 have 36 pilot elementary, middle and high schools all meeting the standards. “Green – Clean – Dynamic”. In the 2023-2024 school year, the province strives to build 80% of preschools, kindergartens, 70% of primary schools, middle schools, high schools, vocational education centers - continuing education that meet standards. By 2025, 100% of schools at all levels will successfully build "Green - Clean - Dynamic" schools.

To achieve the set goals, schools must combine many solutions. Don't just stop at launching a movement “Exchange plastic waste for trees”, “Exchange plastic waste for school supplies”, “Segregate waste at source”… because these activities only solve the "tip" of the problem. Schools must also guide students to participate in scientific research on environmental protection and response to climate change to improve their knowledge and sense of responsibility.

As of the end of 2023, GREEN IN has consulted and implemented many sustainable energy solutions in 16 provinces and cities nationwide, contributing to improving the livelihoods and health of more than 50 thousand people and reducing local greenhouse gas emissions. Smart schools adapting to climate change are one of the programs to raise awareness about green living, contributing to creating a green and happy school that the unit has implemented in many provinces and cities across the country. .

GREEN IN has supported schools to develop green infrastructure, connecting with the global green school system. Students have the opportunity to learn, experience, explore and come up with many creative solutions in using sustainable energy and protecting the environment through programs such as Learn & Practice Green Global Citizenship Skills, Experience a Day of Climate Challenge, Green Citizen Summer Camp, Climate Leaders Club,...

At the conference, delegates also heard about the successful application of a water filtration system model using solar power at An Dien Primary School, Thanh Phu commune, Ben Tre province. This is a work done by GREEN IN Coordinate with the Ben Tre Provincial Association to install it in 2022, which will support salt water filtration and solve the current saline water situation in the province.

Next time, GREEN IN Continue to coordinate with schools to organize training and raise teachers' awareness about smart schools adapting to climate change.
